Over the years we have incorporated many design ideas for pets. We’ve made keeping dogs clean easier by installing dog showers with exterior doors, adding hand held shower fixtures to bathtubs and installing big utility sinks in laundry rooms. In kitchens and mud rooms we have created dedicated areas for dog bowls and food, and cat litter space under cabinetry. Dog crates can be installed under kitchen counters, to save space. Window seats are popular with cats as well as basement lally columns coiled with rope for scratching. Doggy doors with vacation sliding security panels can be added to exterior walls so they aren’t blocked by storm doors. We’ve installed fences that couldn’t be jumped over or squeezed through. The areas below stairs and under built-in desks are perfect dog dens. Finally, we’ve specified sheet vinyl, rubber and tile floors for messy, wet dog areas. For our own dog, we installed a paw height door pull she uses to let herself out of our screen porch.
