Space for a blended family

A blended family in Acton needed to add a primary bedroom with closets and a bathroom. To create the space, we added a full width dormer to the back of their salt box colonial. A closet area leads to the bath which has a soaking tub, tiled shower and two sinks. They also wanted to add more family space, a mudroom, and a two-car garage. We created a family room above a garage and connected it by a stair to an expanded dining room with sliding glass doors opening to a deck, which is structured to support a future sunroom. One air source heat pump, installed in the existing attic, heats, and cools the additions.
